Full Scope Simulator

Hello,

    I am looking for a free/libre tool to develop a simulation environment. I have tried OMI with a small case and a python client to control the simulation and set/get simulation values successfully.
    I will need  to interchange a lot of values with a control system and to save/restore the simulation status when saving/loading an initial condition. I was wondering if this could be achieved using Openmodelica interactive. Is there other way of accesing the simulator data than using networking protocols?
   I actually work with other environments as GSE Jade tools that uses shared memory to store simulation results/parameters/etc. and have network protocols to access the information in such memory area remotely.
