Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

We have a PC with Windows XP SP3 which has been used with various versions of OpenModelica.
Since today, it crashes with a blue screen "IRQL_not_less_or_equal" when opening OpenModelica.
We use OpenModelica 1.8.1 (release version).

This happens for both "OpenModelica Shell" and "OpenModelica Connection Editor".
Any hints what could cause the Windows crash?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Leo

Re: Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

Blue screens are usually caused by faulty hardware (try running Memtest86+) or faulty device drivers (such as a webcam, printer or other USB device you plugged into the computer).
OpenModelica itself should be unable to cause your operating system to crash, although if there are buggy device drivers in there, anything can happen... Have you tried running OpenModelica as a non-privileged user (non-admin)?

Re: Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

Thanks for the hints, we'll check the PC. Strangely, it was 100% reproducable when opening OpenModelica. There was no crash of other applications.

Re: Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

If you strongly believe OpenModelica is causing it, try to start the OS in Safe Mode (possibly with Networking). If there is then no crash it is highly likely some 3rd party driver is causing the issues.

Re: Windows XP Bluescreen when opening OpenModelica

Problem found: NOT OpenModelica did cause it.

The PC used a tool called "Driver Mender" to search for driver updates. After removing Driver Mender, OpenModelica doesn't cause blue screens anymore :-)

Martin, thanks for the quick hints!

Best regards, Leo
